Angela's Place:
Angela's Place is a non-food pantry which assists
individuals and families who are living with HIV/AIDS. Since June 1994, we
have distributed bags of household supplies and personal toilet articles to
men, women and children infected by HIV. Each month, program participants
receive a bag of items such as soap, toilet paper, household cleaning
supplies and laundry detergent. Bags are distributed at the Guardian Angel
Café.
The Guardian Angel Café:
On the third Saturday of each month, since
February 1995, our Café has provided a nutritious dinner and an opportunity
for networking for those with HIV/AIDS and their caregivers and companions.
An average of 125 people participate each month. Additionally, each
individual or family living with HIV/AIDS is sent home with two or three
food bags filled with canned and dry goods, frozen food and fresh fruit,
vegetables and breads, all purchased from Second Harvest Food Bank or
donated by local groups. Call Sr. Kathleen to receive an invitation to the
Café if you are HIV positive.
Child & Family Program:
The Child & Family Program is housed at Casa Madre, a converted house on
the city's South side, and consists of services for children infected and
affected by HIV and their parents and guardians. Services and
activities for the children include a monthly social support group during
the Guardian Angel Cafe, recreational and educational outings, a tutoring
program, summer programs, home visits, a monthly children's newsletter,
counseling referrals, art therapy, life skills, conflict resolution and
leadership development, and children's advocacy and interventions in
situations concerning housing, education, social services, and physical
health and well-being. Services for parents and guardians include a
monthly support group, an annual women's retreat, periodic educational
programs, and support with respite needs, counseling referrals, community
resources, parenting skills and general advocacy.
Comprehensive Care Center:
The
Comprehensive Care Center is an adult and pediatric HIV clinic located in
Oak Hill Renaissance Place (the old Southside Hospital). The
Comprehensive Care Center provides outpatient HIV healthcare, HIV counseling
and testing, mental health care, case management, patient education and
numerous support services for children, women and men who are HIV-positive,
regardless of their ability to pay. The clinic also offers on-site
training for physicians, nurses, and medical students.
